Blizzard Entertainment Auctions Serve Blades for Charity
Tuesday, October 18th, 2011The video game producer, Blizzard Entertainment, has always set an example by their philanthropic efforts. In the past they have donated to numerous charitable causes. When the tsunami hit in Japan, they sold virtual pets and donated profits to the Red Cross Organization. They also sold virtual pets in an effort to raise funds for the Make a Wish Foundation. They even granted a wish to a child, who was able to tour their design studios and get an exclusive behind the scenes peak. Well now Blizzard Entertainment is at it again, supporting the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The company announced this week that they will be selling retired World of Warcraft server blades at auction. Whoever bids the highest price can walk away with one of the 2000 available retired Hewlett Packard ProLiant blade servers. These little pieces of history used to be home to various realms of World of Warcraft, throughout Europe and the United States.
Each of the individual blades, once held around 500 different realms for the game. The blades come fully encased in a special piece of glass. The glass has the official World of Warcraft logo and a signature plague commemorating your purchase. All net procedures go directly to St. Jude’s.
You can start bidding on the blades this week via eBay. There will be four different blocks of auctions and although there are 2000 blades, they are bound to go quickly. Die hard World or Warcraft fans, the kinds who spend hours online playing and buy WOW accounts left and right, will be sure to shell out lots of money for them.
